Are You Ready for Spring? 10 Helpful Tips to make sure your ready!
As we at Clemmer Services are gearing up for Spring, we wanted to pass along 10 helpful tips to make sure your home is ready for the upcoming season.
- Have your air conditioning system serviced for peak performance (you know who can help you with this!).
- Inspect the insulation in your attic. Your attic can get up to 140 degrees, which makes for a very hot house. Your attic should have 10 to 12 inches of insulation (measure from the ceiling below to the top of the insulation) to help stop this heat from entering your home.
- Check your attic fans or wind turbines to make sure they are in good shape and working, this can help reduce attic temperatures by exhausting hot air out of this area.
- Inspect the dampers in your fireplace, dryer vent, bath and kitchen exhaust fans to make sure they are closed when they are not in use (Point of interest: heat travels from hot to cold as it looks for ways to get into your cool home).
- Seal around penetration points on inside walls, including around plumbing, gas lines, TV cable, phone, electrical, speakers, etc., that enter your home.
- Make sure the seals are good around your doors and windows.
- Have a cool shady place for pets that are outside during the summer.
- Clean your pool filters and set the timer to run your pump at night or early in the morning, during off peak hours.
- Set your sprinklers for the proper time and set the timer to run early, this will allow more water to get to your plants.
- Ask your car service shop to inspect your car for the hot weather.
Most of these repairs you can do by yourself
